Deacon
Salvatore Cirabisi
was born in Brooklyn, New York; however, his home was wherever his father’s military career took him.
Thus, during his childhood years, he lived in ten different places.
Shortly after graduation from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Air
Force, where he served his career as a Supply Specialist. While on
temporary duty in Sicily, he met Angelita Conzales, who was also TDY. They
later married in 1983. After assignments at seven different Air Bases, he
culminated his military career at
Tyndall AFB, Panama City, FL, where he
retired in 1995.
A graduate from Gulf Coast
Community College, Sal received his AA degree in Liberal Arts with a focus on Philosophy. He obtained the
necessary theological hours through a special Institute for Deacon
Preparation Program developed by LaRoche College in Pittsburgh, thereby
qualifying him academically for the Permanent Diaconate Ministry within
the Roman Catholic Church. On May 20, 2000 he was ordained to the
Permanent Diaconate for the Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee by Bishop
John H. Ricard. Deacon Sal attained a Bachelors of Science degree in
Social Science with a primary concentration in Political Science and a
secondary concentration in History from Florida State University
Florida State University in December of
2004.
Initially, Deacon Sal was assigned to St. John Parish in Panama
City, where his primary ministry for three years was directing and acting
as Spiritual Director of the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults
program. On May 1, 2003, Bishop Ricard assigned him to St. Dominic’s to
assist the
priest and people of St. Dominic Parish.
Here are some
thoughts from Deacon Sal with reflections on the things of God that touch his heart.
