Adult
catechesis seeks to present the church in all its dimensions, including
its missionary nature, its role as sign or sacrament of Christ’s presence
in the world, its ecumenical commitment, and its mandate to communicate
the whole truth of Christ to all persons in all times.
(Matthew 28,30)
Adult catechesis includes the study of
scripture, tradition, liturgy, theology, morality, and the church’s teaching
authority of life. Church history is important for placing events in proper
perspective. Because Christ commissioned the apostles to teach people to observe
everything He had commanded, catechesis includes “not only those things which
are to be believed, but also those things which are to be done.”
(General Catechetical Directory, 63)
St. Dominic’s Adult Educational
Program strives to fulfill these mandates by providing parishioners
opportunities for personal spiritual growth, and guidelines for living their
Christian commitments in today’s world.
